 Instructors

Becky Simon: Most competition dancers will recognize Becky Simon from her role as deck captain in the area's three major professional competitions. She is the one who, with a cheerful demeanor, hunts us down, lines us up, and sends us off. She has been teaching dance for 35 years and received her training in the Fred Astaire system. She is a former Chicago Area Fred Astaire Rising Star and Open Rhythm and Smooth champion. Becky taught at Let's Dance and Cheek to Cheek studios before becoming an independent instructor, eventually sharing space with Greg Marquis at Kay's studio. Becky now owns Diamond Dancesport and teaches both private and group classes. She works with competition students in the American and International styles. In addition, she provides instruction in social dance and preparation for special events like wedding receptions.

Rachel Mercedes: Rachel began her ballroom career at the age of 7.  At 16, she decided to turn professional and paired up with Alex Arteaga in the American Rhythm style. They went on to have a successful 3 year partnership, ending in 2008. Currently she is dancing with Allen Desterhaft in American Smooth and Showdance. Rachel has been teaching for the past 5 years at Diamond Dancesport specialized in Pro/Am students in both American and International styles. Under her instruction, Rachel's students have gone on to win many awards at our local competitions.

Greg Marquis: Greg Marquis began teaching dance 14 years ago at Let's Dance studio and eventually became an independent instructor. Active in instructing students for competition, he has won the top teacher award, at least twice, at each of the area's three major professional events. Teaching in both private and group formats, Greg instructs in American, International and Country-Western styles. He attributes his keen sense for competition to his success as a participant in Color Guard and Drum and Bugle Corps contests. He was a member of the Cavaliers when they won the first World Championship in Color Guard. He remains active in Color Guard and Drum Corps competition as a judge at the national level. Greg is one of the organizers of the annual Windy City Dancesport Showcase held at the Lexington House in Hickory Hills.
